Aim

Help the Women's Equality Party Basingstoke raise money to get Stacy Hart elected to Basingstoke Council in the 2023 local election!

Stacy Hart is WEP Basingstoke's local elections candidate, standing in Hatch Warren & Beggarwood, and we're raising money to help Stacy run for a seat on the Borough Council.

Stacy ran in the local elections for the very first time in May 2022 and despite being a new face from a small, independent party, did incredibly well, coming THIRD out of SEVEN candidates, only slightly behind Labour and winning more votes than the Lib Dems, Greens, and both other independent candidates. This stunning result first time out was testament to Stacy's hard work in the ward which she has continued year-round since then, and shows that she has a real chance of winning the seat!

The Women's Equality Party are a fresh, new, collaborative force in British politics, and the only party in the UK with equality at the forefront of everything WE do. WE unite people of all different backgrounds to fight for equality, so that everyone benefits.

Stacy is the leader of The Women's Equality Party's Basingstoke branch, and is running for Basingstoke Council because WE know that fresh, innovative and diverse voices are desperately needed in politics, as stale and mainstream voices are failing. Politics was never on the agenda for Stacy, but her time as a community volunteer, self-employed worker, and stay-at-home parent has shone a light on the change that we badly need to see in society. Those who are elected to represent us need to make these changes, but they aren't listening to us.

It's time for real progress. It's time for a truly fresh and independent voice and collaborative working. It's time for equality to be put at the heart of local government. Because politics should be for everyone.

The Women's Equality Party is much newer than other UK political parties, and doesn't have the financial backing that others have. Any donations you are able to give to us today will make a huge difference in our fight for equality:

  • £10 will help pay for us to deliver leaflets to the to spread the word about WEP Basingstoke.
  • £20 will help pay for digital adverts, meaning we can reach potential voters online.
  • £50 will help us send 1000 letters to the Hatch Warren & Beggarwood community to tell them more about our campaign.

Your support will ensure we can fight for equality. Every donation brings us a step closer to a seat in the council to make real progression. No amount is too small.

Stacy is campaigning to:

Value care work

We've seen the true value of care during the pandemic. However, those same services have had their funding reduced or withdrawn leaving them in crisis, particularly the childcare industry. Caring is essential, skilled and specialist work and it deserves to be valued.

End violence against women and girls

Last year, WE campaigned for Basingstoke and Deane Council to aim for White Ribbon accreditation for the Council, and WE have recently been informed that this accreditation has been achieved! White Ribbon UK is the leading charity that works with men and boys to challenge those male cultures that lead to harassment, abuse and violence against women. Stacy has also campaigned successfully for change in Licensing Policy that means venues selling alcohol must consider and mitigate sexual harrassment in their establishments. As The Women's Equality Party's local representative, Stacy will work on the Council to make the White Ribbon action plan a public document, open to scrutiny and assessment, hold the Council accountable in making real change to stop violence against women and girls, and continue to make smart, actionable changes that benefit everyone.

Fight climate change

WE wrote a plan for feminist-led climate action and as a result, Basingstoke and Deane Council amended their strategy to acknowledge and tackle societal injustice hand-in-hand with climate change. Stacy will continue to press for our feminist-led environment strategy to be implemented because equality is better for the environment.

The local elections are a great opportunity for everyone to vote for equality and WE want your support to help us.

Stand with us to help elect Stacy Hart to Council, and help build back equal!

Thank you for your support.

The legal bit...

As we're a political party we're required to run permissibility checks on donations over £50. These will be completed as you make your donation and therefore we can't accept anonymous donations over £50.

If you give over £500 your details will appear in our election returns, and if you donate over £7,500 your name will appear on the Electoral Commission website.
