The Harrogate Round Table Charitable Trust are raising money for local charities to make up for monies that would ordinarily be raised through the annual charitable Bonfire on the Stray.

We figured that people have already sacrificed so much this year and the decision to cancel our 50th Bonfire and Fireworks display is yet another impact of Covid-19.

We therefore thought – why should people miss out completely on Bonfire night; let’s think of another way to celebrate that will:

• Provide some fun for the whole family – let’s be honest, we could all do with cheering up!

• Demonstrate community solidarity - we are all in this together so let’s remind ourselves of that fact.

• Reduce social isolation – Let’s let all those that are socially isolated for whatever reason on Bonfire Night know that you they are not alone.

 How can you help?

What we are asking people to do is at 6:30pm on Bonfire Night, go out into your garden, shine a torch or a light into the air and give everyone a good old fashioned cheer and applause.

Maybe decorate the house, put on some fancy dress, and enjoy some bonfire treats - anything to make it fun.

What is vitally important is that for safety reasons we have to be clear that we are not asking people to set off any fireworks or start any fires.  And of course, it all must be done within the current rules & guidelines.

 How can you support us?

Whilst it is completely free to participate, we’re also trying to use the opportunity to raise some much need funds for local charities and worthy causes.

As we all know, many local charities are under incredible pressure at the moment. In fact, during lockdown we ourselves were involved in buying and distributing essential food parcels to vulnerable and socially isolated people across the Harrogate district.

We’d therefore be delighted if members of the public could donate whatever they feel they can afford to help us support these organisations via this page. 100% of all monies raised will go to local charitable causes.

Anything you can contribute towards helping us achieve our target will be massively appreciated.

Thank you.
