I've never run this far before! Help me raise funds for The People's Recovery Project, for those experiencing homelessness & addiction.
Living in London its clear how many people are struggling with homelessness and addiction and it's a tragedy that proper rehabilitation treatment is so hard to access. So this year I am putting on my running shoes and having a go at the Hackney Half to raise money for The People's Recovery Project - a small charity with a big impact run by my friend and local Tottenham resident Ed. It will mean so much to know that I am doing my bit for Londoners who need some help to get a fresh start. I am definitely not a pro runner so this will be hard work but I am looking forward to the challenge and would be so grateful if you can help me reach my target, every penny counts.
The People’s Recovery Project is an innovative charity that seeks to make recovery achievable and sustainable for people experiencing homelessness and addiction. The project is designed to create an alternative pathway and package of support for people in this situation to access residential treatment, co-designed and co-delivered by community members with lived experience.
In the current paradigm we know that drug related deaths in the UK are increasing and opportunities to access recovery are extremely limited for people living on the streets. However, when people are given the opportunity to access residential detox and rehab the results can be transformative for the individual concerned.
The People’s Recovery Project is inspired by real journeys made by individuals experiencing homelessness and addiction through treatment and into recovery. These examples are currently the exception and through shared purpose our community is seeking to make recovery achievable and sustainable for people in this situation.
We are building a community that has the knowledge and understanding to support people on transformative journeys and create an environment where great people can become greater people.
