Aim

To start my own business making and selling dog biscuits with sensitive stomachs in minds and no additives

*Update* Having reviewed the figure I need to fully launch my business, I have reduced my goal amount to £2,000 from £9,000. This will mean that I can pay for all my lines to be legally tested and verified by APHA which is a legal requirement and means that I can launch my shop in January 2020!!! Thanks to all who have pledged and shown your support so far, this truly means so much!!

My Story:

Hana Treat’s offers the owner and their dog a tasty alternative to the heavily manufactured dog treats across the UK.

Starting out in my own kitchen at home, I was looking for a dog treat that wouldn’t impact on my rescue dog Hana’s sensitive stomach. Hana loves her treats, but the ones we were purchasing made her bloated and more likely to suffer from a sore stomach.

I started my first batch with pureed baby food (98% fruit/veg and 2% water), whole wheat flour a bit of banana, peanut butter or raw coconut oil. Needless to say, she absolutely loved them, to the point that she thinks every time we go into the kitchen, she’s going to receive a healthy, tasty treat.

Following the success with my own dog, I recently took some homemade dog biscuits round to a friend who has a dog with a very selective palate. Low and behold he snapped the treats up, clearly loving every morsel,

My Aim and the wider context:

So that is the aim of Hana Treat’s, to help picky pooches and those with sensitive stomachs find a tasty morsel that they will love: and their owners will be satisfied, knowing that their dogs are able to enjoy treats which are made just for them.

The UK pet products and services industry are projected to reach a net worth of £2.1 billion by 2023 across Europe. The UK pet market is one or the largest markets in Europe, with 45% of the UK population owning at least 1 pet. Dog owners in Britain are estimated to spend approximately £10.6 billion on their pets overall each year.

In 20212, Pet Business World reported that real value sales of both dog and cat treats increased by more than 50% according to Euromonitor, despite struggling economic conditions overall. As people move more and more towards humanising their pets, there is a desire for more natural and healthy dog treats. More and more dogs are prone to sensitive stomachs, with many pet owners reporting that their dog has at least 1 allergy to certain food by products.

Where Your Money Goes:

The money I receive from Crowdfunder will be used to help pay for product testing, public liability and some important pieces of kitchen equipment that will allow me to create as many dog biscuits as I can. The money will also be used so that I can create a stock of shipping boxes and storage bags that will have a minimal environmental impact and means that I can start taking orders and sending treats to customers by post. This money will be crucial in helping me set up my business and will additionally allow me to pay for stalls at fairs and markets across Scotland during my first year of trading, meaning that I will be able expand my network and improve my marketing skills.
