As Camden Alterations recovers from Covid-19 we are planning to diversify our business by developing a range of designer jeans.
Hello, I'm Donna. I run a clothing alterations business in Whitley Bay.
We've been closed for a while now, as a result of Covid-19 and this has given me time to think, plan and scheme a new avenue for the business. Clothing Alterations is a cracking business. People looking after their clothes, having them altered and repaired is so much more sustainable than constantly buying new. I get to meet great people and they go away happy that a favourite item of clothing can be worn and loved once more. It's also a business where you need to stand close to people to give them the perfect fit. That's a concern. To protect my business and the livelihoods of my staff I'm looking to diversify into manufacturing. It's something I've often thought of, but now feels like its something I need to do for me, my staff and my business.
Halo Jeans!
Remember Geordie Jeans? A jeans manufacturing business based in Newcastle for local people? Well, that's what Halo's about (a bit). We're also about quality. We're going to produce top quality garments, designed to make you look and feel great. We're also about sustainability. Our jeans will be made from ethically sourced organic denim. They'll be made locally, paying our staff living wage at the very least.
Great looking, great fitting jeans!
Making jeans is easy. Making amazing jeans isn't. We need to invest in a designer and pattern maker, to create jeans that fit well, feel good and make you look great. We need to produce small runs of jeans that can be tested, modelled in real life, and test the jeans to breaking point under lab conditions.
Made with a conscience
Jeans are often made in Asia from non-organic, non-sustainable cotton, which means pesticides, a gargantuan amount of water, massive 'air miles', trade injustice and exploitation. Halo Jeans will be different. They'll be made locally, right here in the North East, reducing the 'air miles' made by other designer labels. They'll be made by highly experienced and fairly paid garment makers. And they'll be made with top quality organic cotton, which doesn't rely on pesticides or compromise the health of producers.
If you pledge £50 we'll send you a pair of jeans. They'll be specially adorned with a limited edition black and white tab to make you stand out on the Bigg Market, Shields, Tynemouth or wherever you are. You'll be part of a select group of people specially selected to prove that the jeans stand up and make you stand out.
The global COVID-19 pandemic has created a very uncertain landscape for millions of British small businesses, which is going to make it very challenging for businesses to survive. Innovation and local support will go a long way in helping our small businesses survive and grow.
