The aim of this project is to set a challenge and overcome it, supporting each other through the difficult journey.
My name is Luke and I am the lead youth worker of a charity called Hall Green Youth. I've been a youth worker for 12 years and I am passionate about supporting young people to grow holistically in their life.
I work alongside my wife, who is also an experienced youth worker and 2 volunteers who are phenomenal.
Hall Green Youth is a small non-profitable charity who rely on funding from grant givers. We work in local schools and the community.
Funding for youth work is becoming difficult to obtain because of competition and limitation. This has been the case recently for many years.
The young people of Just Chill which is a group run by Hall Green Youth is a community youth/support group for young people aged between 11-18.
The young people of the group are amazing.
The young people all have different needs/circumstances.
To give some context, we have young people in the group who are diagnosed with Autism and ADHD. We have young people with physical disabilities and learning disabilities, alongside many emotional health and well-being challenges.
Our vision for this project is that the young people overcome the mental and physical barriers to completing something that will be challenging. Empowerment is important for growth and the young people have the opportunity to be empowered to raise money for something that will ultimately benefit them.
The group do not like walking, and mentioned above, we have young people with physical disabilities, so this will be a challenge.
All money raised will go into the charity for resources and potential residential, where young people can have a break from the city, learn and grow together, do active activities to better their well-being and to have fun while creating long lasting memories.
