Aim

We're an online platform for black women to share their hair experiences. Our aim is to become the Trust Pilot of the hair industry.

WHAT IS HAIR ADVISOR UK?

Hair Advisor UK is an online platform for black women to share their reviews, provide hair care tips, best products and promote hair stylists’ work.

It is co-founded by three female friends, of which have a passion for technology and hair. The idea was initiated as a result of our own personal experiences of receiving poor customer service from different hair salons. We were unable to find an all round platform for recommended black hair service providers and recognised this was a problem that needed addressing.

MARKETING RESEARCH 

The black hair industry is currently estimated at a value of $2.5 Billion (Credit source: Mintel)  and is continually evolving.

Currently you can find Google reviews on salons such as Toni & Guy and other mainstream hair salons, however, we spotted there was a gap in the market on hair reviews on black hair service providers. With this in mind, having a safe space to discuss matters pertaining to black women's hair and hair service providers is vital.

Within the black community, there is a pattern of women being unsatisfied by hair service providers due to several reasons. 

We carried out research on our social media to get a better understanding as to the reasoning behind this. We discovered the following;

• 68% of people felt intimidated to inform their hairstylist that they were unsatisfied by the service they received and would rather turn to family and friends to vent.
• 76% of women prefer to use an online reviewing platform before making a decision. 
• 58% of women spend an average of £250 per hair extension purchase.
• Women have different important factors when it comes to picking a hair service provider.

HAIR ADVISOR UK'S GOALS

Hair Advisor UK have 3 main goals:

• To build a community whereby black women in the UK can come and discuss all things hair pertaining to natural hair, weave, braids and wigs. 

• Create directory of hair salons and hair vendors on our platform. This will enable a smoother journey for women in finding their preferred hair service providers 

•Hold networking events and workshops in collaboration with credited experts on black hair related topics/ issues

CONCLUSION 

We want facilitate a better relationship between the hair stylists and customers in addition to allowing the hair stylist professionals to share their knowledge and educate the wider community, as a result become the Trust Pilot and go to platform for the hair industry in the UK.
