Aim

Hacha Duo are commissioning 8 female and gender-minority composers to write new music on the theme of climate change.

Inspired by the theme of climate change, Hacha Duo are commissioning 8 composers to write for their unusual combination - oboe/cor anglais and clarinet/bass clarinet duo.

The aims of the project are to -

1) commission new music from living female and other minority gender composers

2) expand the repertoire available for this instrumentation

3) create awareness of climate change through new music

This project will promote the work of British female and gender minority composers, as they are underrepresented and as an all-female ensemble, Hacha Duo believe it is important to devote their commissions to this. There is limited repertoire for oboe/cor anglais and clarinet/bass clarinet, so this project will expand the repertoire, whilst focusing on climate change; a topic that is ever important and impacting our society.

Public Access

The public will be able to access this project by live performances (with pay what you can tickets/free tickets available) and professional video performances uploaded onto YouTube and available freely online.

All compositions will have a professional quality video recording produced, edited and released in late 2023. The performances will be released online as a series of videos, building up momentum and awareness of the project.

Alea Publishing (specialist bass clarinet publisher) have agreed to work with Hacha Duo and their composers to publish this repertoire for other musicians to access.

Funds

We are hoping to raise £5000 towards this project, to be able to pay MU rates to our composers and all artists involved.

Hacha Duo bio

Hacha Duo are a contemporary woodwind duo, performing a variety of classical and contemporary repertoire for the clarinet and oboe and their auxiliary instruments. They regularly commission new music for their performances across the UK and have performed a number of world and UK premieres of repertoire by composers including Alastair Penman, Daniel Dorff and George Shrapnell. They met as scholars at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in 2018 and have performed together at the Old Royal Naval College Chapel and Southwark Cathedral. In 2020, they released their first album 'Parts and Poems of the Body' which is available on all online platforms. Hacha Duo strives to be a leading ensemble for celebrating new music for woodwind instruments and will continue to focus on commissioning new work, particularly by female composers. As individual arrangers, both Hannah and Catherine have published new works for their duo with Alea Publishing.
