Aim

Guildford u3a is a self-help charity allowing those who no longer work full time to continue to learn, socialise and be active and engaged.

The u3a movement started in France as a means for retired people to have access to higher education.  Within the UK it has become one of the country's largest charitable organisations, allowing members to learn from each other, meeting and socialising at all levels across a vast range of subjects and skills.  Within Guildford u3a we run over 100 different classes, covering sports, languages, arts, sciences, music, topical discussions, and our ever-popular trips and outings.  There is no longer an age limit - the only criterion is that members must be available during the day, since that's when the classes take place.  There are some for whom u3a provides vital friendship and social support; for others it's a place to meet friends and discuss topics of interest.  We are deeply engaged with and embedded within the community of Guildford.
