The GSA Choir champions contemporary music; help us commission our next work - for chorus and ensemble - from Grace-Evangeline Mason.
Founded in 2012, the GSA Choir has grown to become one of Scotland’s largest and most ambitious choirs. Today, with more than 150 singers, we are proud of our reputation for outstanding musical discipline, and our commitment to new music.
The GSA Choir is an established champion of contemporary music having commissioned more than 20 new works since the ensemble was founded in 2012. In 2017 and 2025 we crowdfunded new works by Jay Capperauld, The Unspoken and Sun Path respectively. Sun Path is our largest commission to date, and will be premiered at our 15th anniversary concert in May 2027.
We're now looking ahead, to what comes after we celebrate our 15th birthday, and we plan to commission a major new work, but we need your help to make that happen.

We are very excited to announce we will be commissioning English composer, Grace-Evangeline Mason to compose a new work for SATB chorus and small ensemble, which will be premiered by the choir in May 2029.
Named as the Face to Watch for Classical Music in The Times 2020 Calendar of the Arts, Grace is a British composer of orchestral, chamber, choral, electronic and operatic music. Her music has been performed by ensembles such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and many more.
We are delighted that Grace has agreed to collaborate with the GSA Choir to compose a new, 12-minute work, for chorus and small instrumental ensemble (9 players).
We have already raised 50% of the funds required for the artistic fees through concert income and our existing reserves. In order to ensure that Grace is paid fair rates in line with current industry guidance (something we feel passionately about), we need your help to raise the remainder.
We are looking to raise £6,000, the majority of which is for the project itself, the rest of which will cover the small amount required for Crowdfunder's payment processing fees.
At 12 minutes long, the new work will be a substantial artistic statement from one of the UK's leading new voices.
"Mason writes music as exquisite as her name, made of bright sounds that wheel round each other like colours in a kaleidoscope."
Grace has composed many new works for choir and ensembles, and is experienced at writing for both individually as well. You can hear some examples of her incredible music below.

The risk is simple: if we don't raise enough money to pay for the commission, it can't happen. By now the choir is experienced at commissioning new works and giving them the world premieres they deserve.
We have agreed terms with Grace and she is ready to start working on the piece.
We know that our singers and our audience are huge supporters of contemporary music – they have proven so during the last 14 years. By supporting this project, you can be part of something spectacular; not simply a new commission but part of a growing music-making community that the choir has fostered amongst its singers, audiences and followers.
From everyone at the GSA Choir, thank you for supporting our latest project. We look forward to sharing our story with you as the project progresses towards the world premiere in 2029. We hope you will join us for what will be an unmissable performance.
