On the 13th March 2025 we'd raised £4,755 with 26 supporters in 13 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
Stockport Trinity is a small but thriving cricket club based in Bramhall, Cheshire. We have about 120 members and junior and senior cricket takes place on our ground 7 days a week all summer.
At Stockport Trinity, we are finding that too many matches and training sessions are lost each year due to ground waterlogging. We are therefore looking to improve drainage with a sandbanding drainage system. This will allow more effective dissipation of water after heavy rain and, as a result less cancellations.
Sandbank installation provide a secondary surface drainage system laid over a traditional piped drainage system. This is crucial for us at Stockport Trinity. With all the wet weather, turf is lying constantly wet and the soil is saturated. Sandbanding involves injecting sand into bands or grooves at 260mm centres up to 175 mm to 200mm depth to dramatically increase connectivity from surface to drain pipes. This process will literally be a game-changer for us in terms of getting more matches on.
The ground we play on has a very heavy clay content, which impacts drainage of the rain water. This makes the project an extra special priority for us.
The project will be delivered by our committee, in close conjunction with our groundsman and our main external provider of ground maintenance services, who have provided us with a written quote for the work and who will be able to start the project quite soon, enabling the work to be completed in advance of the 2025 season which starts in late April.
The quote we have received for the work is for a total cost of £4,320 including VAT. We have been promised £2K from Sport England if we can raise matched funding.
Although this project is making no visible changes to our facility, it will improve drainage hugely and this will allow us to get more games on. The benefits will be three fold:
- there will be an immediate benefit to our players, junior and senior, who will be able to practice and play more regularly due to improved drainage
- there will be a benefit to the well being of our numerous spectators, who love to come down to the ground on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, or on a week night, to enjoy the action
- there will be a benefit to the club finances as the revnue-generating opportunities that matches create will not be lost
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
