We need your help to ensure the survival of the club and to enable it to thrive and grow in the aftermath of Covid 19

All about Griffin.

Sport for all in a rural community.

For the past 40 years Griffin Association has provided many sporting opportunities for the youth of Street, Glastonbury and the surrounding villages. For the past 10 years the association has focused solely on Gymnastics and Trampolining though maintaining its core values to provide opportunities to young people no matter what age, ability, ambitions, experience, or background.

Griffin provides quality, progressive and most importantly fun coaching to all of its members. Providing classes from complete novices to squad groups competing nationally through a structured pathway.

Griffin works closely with the local community, using Strode College Sports Centre as our base of activities. Being in a rural area the social aspects of the club and opportunities it offers are particularly valuable to our members who, especially through Lockdowns have often become very isolated.

Effects of Covid 19 on Griffin.

We won't lie, it’s been tough!

As with many organisations the past 18 months has been tough. Griffin has worked tirelessly to keep our members engaged, actively and socially through these trying times. This success has been a sign of the commitment from the committee and coaching team. However, the measures needed to be put in place to ensure Griffin continued has put a strain on the club funds.  To avoid significant increases in class fees, which Griffin fear will isolate many of its members, Griffin has decided to reach out via crowd funding to support its income.

How are Griffin funds used?

Other than day to day running costs Griffin sees the is importance to invest in the future. This comes in many guises which all need funds for their continuation.

Supporting our members.

As a club, and as a registered charity, Griffin have always offered bursaries to any of our members who are finding the costs prohibitive, this facility is available from beginners to squad members. Griffin wants to avoid finances being the limiting factor in any child's participation, progression, and enjoyment of sport.

Supporting gymnasts to reach their potential.

The squad members are always working hard to reach their potential, this takes time, dedication, hard work and of course finance. Training the hours needed to reach a competitive standard has a cost, Griffin subsidises the cost to our squad members to keep it affordable. Along with providing financial assistance for travelling to and entering national competitions.

Young coaches training program.

Griffin encourages any of our current or past members who are 14+ to get involved in coaching, this gives young people valuable experience and is important for the long-term survival of the club. Griffin provides mentoring and funding towards the costs of the British Gymnastics coaching awards. This program is currently on hold due to lack of funds available within the club, and with coaching courses are starting to open up online, Griffin want to get these opportunities rolling again.

Professional development for all our coaches.

As a club Griffin has offered bursaries to our coaches to help with the costs of continuing their professional development. Whether it is increasing their current qualification level, completing add on modules to enable them to coach a wider range of skills, disciplines, or supplementary courses such as first aid, safeguarding and metal health workshops.
