In May 2024, Hastings Greens became the largest group on Hastings Borough Council with a total of twelve Green councillors, and are now leading the council.
Becca Horn, our Campaign Organiser for the May 2024 elections and newly elected Councillor for Castle ward, says, "Our success was, in no small part, thanks to YOU. Your donations made our 'Green Wave' possible. Thank you so much."
Becca continues, "Now, we're determined to build on our local success. We're standing a Green candidate in every division of Hastings & St Leonards at the County elections. Our aim is to become part of a new, greener administration."
Green Hastings Borough Council Leader and County Councillor for Old Hastings & Tressell division, Julia Hilton, explains further, "East Sussex County Council has always been Conservative. They control many of our vital services, for example our buses, highways, children's services and adult social care. They are also the lead authority on our town centre regeneration. Much of the work we want to get on with at a local level gets held up by them. It's frustrating, and we really need a change."
Hastings Greens need to raise £10,000 to fund our county election campaign to get at least four Greens elected within the Hastings divisions. Becca explains, "There are eight divisions; each division is two wards combined - so there's a lot of ground to cover. This campaign is as big as, if not bigger than, our last - we need all the help we can get!"
Julia adds, "We don't have huge pots of money like Labour or the Conservatives - Greens rely on the generous donations from our grass roots supporters for all of our work. Our success is down to every single one of you.
"Please give what you can and help us build a bright green and fair future for Hastings."
