Have you ever seen a person on social media and wished their life was yours?
WHAT IS GREEN WITH ENVY?
Green With Envy is a comedy which playfully criticises the zeitgeist of social media envy. It is presented from the point of view of a working class Gen Z delivery biker who struggles to make ends meet in a declining economy, who finds her job unfulfilling but takes refuge in social media. Online, she often interacts with content from influencers who appear to live the perfect life and hates her own life in comparison.
It is a powerful coming of age story, of a young protagonist who realises that nobody’s life is perfect, regardless of the glam online and learning to be grateful for the small wins in life.
THE STORY
The protagonist, Chloe, is a delivery biker and an artist who feels like she is never good enough - never the first place, never standing out and who feels like an episodic character in her own life. She participated in an art contest from which she did not hear back past the deadline and in order to take her mind off of her life, she takes refuge in the online world, where she follows Bella, a lifestyle influencer.
Chloe feels jealous of Bella’s life, as she thinks she gets to live a dream, whilst Chloe needs to make deliveries of food to make ends meet. However, one day Chloe gets a delivery request, whilst Bella is doing a live stream in Malibu.
When Chloe arrives at the shabby apartment complex, she is shocked to find Bella there, and see that the influencer was living in a cheap flat, with a mattress on the floor and a green screen ‘make-shift’ studio.
Upon realising that she hated her humble life in favour of a lie, Chloe starts giving herself a break and forgives herself for never being first place. When she arrives home, she gets a notification from the art contest she entered to announce her that she has won the competition and a complementary trip to Malibu beach, her dream destination.
WHY?
The short film wants to encourage people to look beyond the façade that we all display online and treat life with a more profound approach. It is also celebrates the small wins in life, not being so hard on yourself in the face of rejection or temporary perceived failures and finding the strength to move on when all seems hopeless.
TONE AND VISUALS
In terms of visuals, shots would resemble other coming-of-age films such as Short Term 12 and Edge of Seventeen.
Chloe’s room is her refuge, with warm tones and hints of purple, whilst Bella’s flat is colder tones, artificial light and does not feel like a home.
Lighting will play a key role in defining the mood and developing the character arc, whilst at the same time trying to keep it as relatable as possible - there will be street light scenes and there will be a beach scene with natural light.
ABOUT US
Ana - Writer & Director
Hello, my name is Ana - the writer and director for Green With Envy. I am a filmmaker with a passion for telling stories which navigate the complexity of human emotions, deal with social issues and spark new thoughts.
Green with Envy is a beautiful story which celebrates the underdog and promotes gratitude, the need for an occasional social media detox and features an abrupt wake-up call.
I have previously directed 4 other shorts during my University years, and my thesis short, ‘Never Upon A Time’ has received a number of awards at local and international film festivals, and has already been screened at 2 film festivals in the UK.
I am excited to promote the important message behind ‘Green With Envy’ and hopefully bring light and hope into the lives of people who might be struggling with the same feelings of not being where they hoped to be in life by a certain point, who feel like giving up on their art because it is not widely recognised or who feel like they will never evolve past who they are now because of various circumstances. This film is for you and we hope you’ll see it as a kind reminder that there’s so much ahead for you!
Star- Producer
Hi, my name is Star and I am a London based writer/producer that has recently graduated from MetFilm School.
Upon hearing about Green with Envy from Ana, the themes and message behind the story stood out to me as a meaningful and exciting project. I loved the message behind the struggles and influence of social media on people and how damaging it can be comparing themselves to influencers online.
I have previously written a feature film and produced two short films that all centralise around a strong female protagonist and their self discovery , which I believe are two key elements to this production.
Our entire crew is full of extremely talented and creative people who are all excited for you all to see our project come to life!
Reece - Cinematography
My name is Reece, I am based in London and have recently graduated from MetFilm School.
I have gained experience in the last few years working on shorts, documentaries, TV series and features. Most of which I’ve done in film school. Although I usually assume roles within the camera and lighting department, and obsessively so, I also have a soft spot for screenwriting and editing which definitely aids me as a cinematographer. Aside from film, I’m an art lover in every respect, music being one that definitely drives me as a storyteller.
I'm all about chasing that magic in motion. Like capturing music with a camera – each shot has its own rhythm and beat. My only goal as a cinematographer is to that feeling of connection. Where the soul, the creative, and the physical meet. It's not just about getting the shot; it's about capturing the heartbeat of a scene.
CROWDFUNDING GOALS
Our goal is to raise £1500.

-Locations and permits to film around London and travel to a beach to portray Chloe's dream of travelling to Malibu.
-Production design to create each character's personalities through their bedrooms and houses, we want you to get an insight to who they are and what they represent.
