Green Hustle CIC grew from Nottingham's Hockley Hustle festival, which has become a community and cultural staple since 2006, raising over £200,000 for local charities and helping along countless creative careers.
Now we're asking for your help to complete some of our green legacy projects - we're transforming spaces all over Nottingham to bring biodiversity and benefits to local communities, but costs have gone up dramatically since we started planning these projects!
If you can spare a little towards helping covering the costs of plants and materials to green up Nottingham city centre and help out with some unexpected project costs, that would be gratefully received.
Or if you're having/had a great time at the festival and want to leave a tip, here's the place to do it!
These projects include:
Wilford Street Ramp Revamp
We're working with Raleigh, Canal & River Trust, Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, Sherwood Garden Consultancy, and sculptural artist Michelle Reader to revitalise this canalside green space. We'll be adding lots of plants including plenty of forage, some dead hedge, and bug hotels, and we'll be installing a stunning new art installation from Michelle - taking the form of a heron made out of old Raleigh bikes and waste material cleared from the canal.
Cobden Gardens
We're collaborating with DHP Family, Cobden Chambers tenants, urban greener Sarah Manton and craftsman Ben Rawson to replace all the plastic foliage at Cobden Chambers, also The Bodega beer garden, replacing it with real luscious greenery. With the help of tenants and Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, we hope to keep it growing and adding beauty and biodiversity to the area for many years to come.
Broad Street Planters
Have you noticed the planters opposite Mammoth - A Climate Action Cinema, outside the private car park? They were beautiful when installed and planet six years ago but now they need a bit of love. Working with Mammoth, developer Rob Howie-Smith, and car park owner Andy Avis, along with our pals Sarah Manton and Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, we're going to bring the love back.
Old Market Square and Heathcote Street
We're refilling and redesigning the freestanding planters in Old Market Square, filling them with hardy plants that will last and look beautiful for years to come, and we're also installing a raft of new fruit trees on Heathcote Street that will be cared for by local businesses in Hockley. It's going to be a big improvement to our city's streets!
What's Green Hustle all about?
Nature, community, and creativity.
We've been around for a while now putting down our roots across Nottingham, making new connections, growing our green community, all whilst planning our plots and plotting our plans for a thriving city that leads the world on climate action...
That means inclusively championing nature-based solutions and nature engagement, along with looking at food and community, fashion and lifestyle, sport and movement, discovery and learning, and a lot more besides. All with a big dose of joy and creativity, cos that's what makes it all stick.
We believe a hopeful new spring is dawning, and that through the power of community and collaboration we can bring about a better future for all.
We want inclusive change and empowered communities working together to rebuild our natural world and social life.
We want to inspire hope and engagement in building our greener and more equitable future, showing what’s possible and how to get there.
Now's your chance to help!
