The Start of a New Story...
It's been seven months since we closed our doors at The Bookshop on the Green and we've finally found a new, accessible premises to relocate to!
We miss seeing you all and are eager to return to what we do best.
We are hoping to reopen our doors on Wednesday 12th June, just in time to celebrate Independent Bookshop Week with you all!
However, the shop is empty at the moment and we need your help to create a space we can all enjoy together.
For those of you who haven't heard of us before, Green Heart Books started our story as The Bookshop on the Green in Bournville, an award-winning independent bookshop known for our welcoming atmosphere and carefully curated selection of adult and children's books.
Sarah opened The Bookshop on the Green in October 2020. Bournville residents were hugely supportive and the word began to spread of a small bookshop with a big heart and a warm welcome.
Since then, we have hosted a number of memorable events from intimate poetry readings in the bookshop to the official UK launch of Jonathan Coe's 'Bournville'. We are also proud to be the booksellers for Birmingham Literature Festival and to play our part in the local literature ecology, giving back wherever we can, not only to our local community but our city-wide community.
When we closed our doors in August 2023, it was uncertain whether we would be able to find somewhere to suit our needs and bring back the bookshop. We are unbelievably grateful to have found somewhere new to call our home...
(Number 4) Greenfield Crescent, Edgbaston Village
At 1,200 square feet, Green Heart Books will be the largest independent bookshop in Birmingham, giving us much more space for events and workshops, as well as a new Arts and Cultural Festival in Edgbaston Village once we've established ourselves on the Crescent.
We will also be opening a Poetry Coffee Bar in the bookshop and have been given the green light to run a Community Garden!
Poetry Coffee Bar
We want our community to have a place to relax, grow and support one another. Our Poetry Coffee Bar will serve all book lovers and good conversation.
Community Garden
Stories come to life outdoors. We want our community to experience the joys and rewards of growth and the influence of nature on creativity.
It is important to us that everyone can enjoy the new bookshop to its full potential and we are currently working towards making the new bookshop an entirely accessible premises.
We also intend to turn Green Heart Books into an Arts and Cultural Hub and Sarah has been asked by Calthorpe Estates to bring a place-making agenda to Greenfield Crescent over the next 10 years.
We'd like to recapture the community magic that made The Bookshop on the Green such a vibrant and popular independent bookshop.
We are asking you to donate the cost of a book (£8.99) to help reopen Green Heart Books.
Your donations will go towards:
- Building our new, bespoke bookcases
- The cost of purchasing and fitting new flooring
- Our brand-new Poetry Coffee Bar
- Relocation of our beloved Story Tree and children's bookshelves from the old bookshop to our new bookshop on Greenfield Crescent
Thank you all for your support over the past six months. We have offered some rewards to those of you who are able to donate, but would appreciate you sharing this Crowdfunder with friends and family if you are unable to donate yourself.
We can't wait to start this new story with you all.
Best wishes,
Sarah & Peri
