We are wanting to run a young person led project using the playground as a canvas for growing plants and connecting with nature.
We are the first and only staffed FREE adventure playground in Cornwall, which opens 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year based in Redruth. We have been successful at operating a universal and inclusive provision primarily for young people aged 7-16 years old. We also run a youth club, outside playgroup for parents and toddlers, science and dance clubs, community meals and volunteer programmes.
We provide an enriched and challenging play environment for local children and young people with varying needs including children and young people with disabilities and neurodiversity. We have an exciting space where children can be children and where they take the lead in exploring and experimenting.
Our Adventure Playground has a mixture of large structures where children can run, jump, swing, bike, skate, balance, a zip line, ramps, dens, slides, a stage, climbing wall and towers. Children use tools to build their own dens and flower and vegetable beds, plus build fires, whittle and many other activities supported and supervised.
The children would really like to update and improve some areas within the playground. They would like to enhance the hammock / chill out space, build vegetable and flower beds, grow their own veg and construct shelters for the winter, colder and wetter months. Staff would support the builds and supervise the use of hand and power tools, teaching them new skills on how to use these tools. The children would also be learning about growing and cooking their own food and what plants are edible.
