Aim

Portreath Gig Club are in need of 6 new life jackets so we hope to raise enough funds to purchase these essential items!

Who are we?

Portreath Pilot Gig Club ❤️🖤🤍

Our gig club is more than just a sports team – it’s a community. It’s a place where people of all ages come together to share a love for the sea, fitness, teamwork, and camaraderie. Whether it’s training on the water, racing at regattas, or simply supporting each other through life’s ups and downs, the club plays a vital role in many people’s lives.

But, like so many grassroots clubs, we rely on fundraising and community support to stay afloat – quite literally!

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are hoping to raise funds to purchase 6 new life jackets whilst taking part in THE GREAT RIVER RACE 2025!

This is the London Marathon of rowing!

A spectacular boat race covering 21.6 miles of the Thames…starting from Millwall in the East, and finishing in Richmond in the West…our crew will row our gig boat alongside around 300 other boats/crews in the race. We hope to complete the course in around 3 hours on September 20th 2025!

Competing with true Cornish spirit and an awesome crew - it’s going to be a tough but amazing experience!

Good luck Dave (cox), George, Buz, Gail, Kerry, Claire, Sarah & Rach!!

How we’ll spend the money raised

We need to purchase 6 new lifejackets to replace some nearing the end of their life.
Lifejackets are essential safety items to allow our members to get out on the water.

Community impact

Our club is at the heart of the community…we cater for all needs and encourage like minds to connect. Offering social, taster, development and race training it gives everyone the opportunity to benefit from both the physical and mental health benefits gig rowing provides.

We want to continue to offer rowing to our growing membership and driving the sport within the community by encouraging more people to take part.

Our membership area covers several communities and neighbourhoods that are in the top 10% of deprived areas of the U.K.

By fundraising for the equipment we need, it means we can ensure our membership fees remain as low as possible.
