Aim

We're planting and caring for 40,000 trees. With climate change causing chaotic weather we urgently need funds to look after our new trees.

Avon Needs Trees and Forest of Avon Trust have formed a ground breaking partnership to buy over 100 acres of land a few miles south of Bristol and create Great Avon Wood.

We are working with a growing community of volunteers to plant and care for 40,000 trees supplied by the Woodland Trust. This is the largest woodland creation project on record for the West of England.

This summer we’ve experienced chaotic weather with June and September breaking records for heat, and the months in between being exceptionally wet. This makes  looking after our young woodland even more difficult. Our dedicated volunteers and staff have had to work hard and face the elements to care for our newly planted trees.

In order to establish a resilient and well managed woodland, the trees will need care for many years, and climate change will continue to make this more difficult. Tree care is as important to us as tree planting. By next spring we will have 20,000+ trees in the ground, all of which will need regular care.

Our tree survival rates at other woodland sites in last year's drought were 87%, which is really good, but that was only due to the dedication of our volunteers, staff and contractors to provide the care they needed. We are fundraising to ensure they have the best chance for survival, and to make sure the site stays open and safe for visitors.
