Aim

Grappenhall Cricket Club’s practice nets are old and in disrepair; they are not fit for purpose. We are raising £20,000 to help the club.

Our Story

Founded in 1881, we have played at our Broad Lane ground ever since. We run 4 strong senior teams in the Cheshire County Cricket League, as well as very strong Ladies and 2 Over 40s Teams. We also have an immensely successful Junior section with age groups ranging from Under 7s to Under 19s. Many of our cricketers have gone on to represent county, international and England teams.

If you are a UK tax payer, please don't forget to tick GIFT AID when you donate!

More about us:

  • We’re registered as a Community Amateur Sports Club.
  • We’re a community hub for the Grappenhall area. We encourage residents of all ages to socialise, reduce isolation, and enjoy inter-generational engagement.
  • We abide by strong diversity and inclusion policies and principles.

  • Our facilities face huge demand. We have a growing Women’s section, over 200 children attending regular Junior sessions, plus a high demand for age-group cricket.

  • We provide local employment opportunities, especially for young local adults trying to get into work for the first time.

  • We form part of an international exchange programme to give young local cricketers the opportunity to play abroad and experience other cultures.
  • We take great pride in our environmental impact, ensuring a lovely green space for the local community to experience and wildlife to thrive.
  • We raise funds through our own activities and will be contributing to this fundraiser directly too.

 Why are we Crowd Funding?

COVID 19 has no doubt affected our lives, GCC is no different. During COVID restrictions the Club lost vital revenues which would have otherwise been able to be invested into the Club. Although financially the Club did well to survive, we have not had sufficient funds to allow us to improve our facilities.

Grappenhall Cricket Club practice nets are are not fit for purpose. We are looking to raise £20,000 to part-fund new practice nets which will give our premier players, rising talent and women appropriate training facilities.

How we’ll spend the money raised

New 3/4-lane enclosed net

We intend to buy the best-possible artificial facility to reduce the weather’s impact on our training sessions.

These artificial nets will be in constant use throughout the summer. They will give our cricketers the opportunity to practise properly and safely every night of the week.

Importantly, we want to offer these facilities without increasing our membership fees.

We are hoping that through this Crowdfunder, we can serve our community better, by:

  • Retaining more junior players as they continue to play cricket as adults
  • Retaining our high-performing players at senior level
  • Attracting more players in traditionally underrepresented groups
  • Creating more playing and volunteering opportunities
  • Continuing to develop our excellent facilities

How you can play your part

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!

4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
