Scout is suffering from patella luxation in both knees, limiting his movement. Can you help fund his life-changing surgery and aftercare?

Scout needs surgery in both of his back legs to help him run and play freely. He is suffering from patella luxation in both his knees, which prohibits his movement and could lead to arthritis if left untreated. Can you help fund his life-changing surgery?

Scout is a sweet-natured, 3-year-old Jack Russel terrier who was surrendered to us in November this year.

We noticed he had a strange hopping gait and would often tuck one or the other of his back legs up to avoid stepping on it while walking or running. A veterinary assessment confirmed that this is caused by patella luxation in both legs.

Patella luxation is a condition which causes a dog’s kneecap to slip and dislocate.

Patella luxation can range in severity from a mild condition which doesn’t require any treatment, to more severe, requiring physiotherapy or surgery.

Over time, this can cause pain and discomfort to the dog and ultimately lead to painful arthritis.

Scout has patella luxation in both knees, significantly inhibiting his mobility.

When dislocation of the kneecap occurs, it prevents the leg from being able to bend normally, often causing dogs to hop or limp, raising the affected leg.

As Scout’s condition affects both his back legs, his ability to run and play normally is seriously restricted.

Patella luxation surgery is relatively straightforward and will massively improve Scout’s quality of life.

Scout’s surgery will require 8 weeks of recovery to gradually rebuild his muscles and allow the bone time to heal. During this time, he’ll be kept on kennel rest and given all the loving care and affection he needs to regain his strength.

As soon as he’s better, he’ll be able to sprint across the paddock and chase after tennis-balls to his little terrier heart’s content.

Help Scout get the treatment he needs to move freely. Support our Crowdfunder appeal.

Any additional funds raised as part of the crowdfunding appeal will support the hundreds of cats and dogs Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home care for each year.
