To raise enough money to cover most of the costs of recording my debut album.
Hello,
Thank you for being here!
My name is Grace and I am a singer-songwriter. I am asking you to help me fund some of the costs of recording my debut solo album.
I have spent the past few years gigging at any opportunity I can find - festivals, small Scottish tours, supporting musicians I deeply admire and a few headline shows. This has brought me to so many spaces where I have felt held, inspired and assured of the importance of connecting with people through sharing moments of honesty and vulnerability. Many a time I've felt overwhelmed by the generosity and enthusiasm of others when it comes to music. It feels important that this album is not only made up of some new songs, but its foundations lie in the songs that I've been gigging consistently and playing with good friends for many years now.
The money I am asking for will pay for:
- studio and recording engineer costs
- paying all musicians fairly
- mixing and mastering
- CD production
- Artwork
- PR
If successful, the album will be recorded at Lamigo Bay Studios in the North of Scotland. I will be recording with an immensely talented team of musicians who I have been working with for a good few years now. The core team for the recording of the album will be Lewis McLaughlin, Magnus Kramers and Elvey Anna Stedman. It is always a joy to work with them - I'm very grateful. I also hope to have other guest musicians contribute to the project and will speak about this more as time goes on.
Though I have no family connection to those who now own and run Lamigo Bay Studios, the recording studio is built in what was my great-great grandmother's house. The thought of recording out there, and getting the chance to connect with my heritage in this unique way, feels deeply special. I feel grateful for this coincidence and that this opportunity has come to be. The album is due to be recorded at the end of March 2026, and I would hope for it to be with you come winter time.
Songwriting has been something my life has centred around in a consistently subtle (though less so in the past few years) and certain way since my early teens. I learnt from my Dad who was always singing, playing guitar and writing songs in the house as I grew up. I followed suit with teaching and patient accompaniment from him. Songwriting has fuelled my sense of self, creativity and experience of being in the world since those early days. It has been a tool for me to process all kinds of emotions and times of transition. It has led me to connect with people who are now lifelong friends.
Taking time to notice how much this all means to me has encouraged me to reflect on my own creative process and practice. This has brought me into the realms of workshop delivering and I am realising that it is something I love. For this reason, I have offered several songwriting/poetry writing one to ones at varying prices (so you can pay what you feel) in the hope that it is something people would be interested in. I have been hosting 'Creativity Workshops' with Elvey Anna Stedman in our local community woodland - we've explored lots of different creative avenues but regularly focus on creative writing. We recently hosted a workshop on Skye as part of our residency with the Hungry Gull with a focus on poetry writing, and received very kind feedback. I have also regularly taught with Fèisean nan Gàidheal as well as many years working in support capacities. If these one to ones are something you feel interested in, please go for it! And if you don’t currently have the funds, please still message me.
Another of the offerings is a poetry book I’ve compiled named ‘Beginnings’. I’ve been contemplating merch for a while as I know it’s nice to leave a gig with a physical thing that supports the artist, and not so many folks have CD players now. Because most of my songs start as poems or little bits of prose, I thought it would be fun to go back through all my old notebooks and see if I could find the beginnings of songs and make this into a limited run of poetry books. It’s now grown into something that contains those beginnings, but also some more recent poems too. I’ve worked with two great artists to bring this idea to life and I’m excited to share this with you.
And of course there is the record, which I am so excited to bring to you. This feels like a nerve-racking process to get started, but the plan feels strong and all the people I will be working/playing with are second to none. Thank you for any support you can offer, and thank you too for any support you’ve offered at any time along the way xx
