We are raising funds to run an architecture competition for students to present concepts for restoration of derelict dry docks
For several years Clyde Docks Preservation Initiative (CDPI) has run a campaign for the restoration of Govan’s historic A-listed graving docks as a maritime heritage park and to challenge plans for an exclusive private housing development on the site.
The graving docks belong to Govan but at the same time they are of national and international significance. The future use of this site, where the largest ships in the world were once maintained, needs to reflect its heritage significance as well as its economic potential in terms of tourism and skilled job creation.
We are organising a design competition for architecture students to present concepts of how this unique site can be restored.
We plan to hold a public exhibition of the students work in Govan so that the community can come along and see the ideas the students come up with and offer feedback on what they like. This feedback will be used to support the community consultation that Govan Docks Regeneration Trust is taking forward as part of developing proposals for use of the public areas of the graving dock site.
We will also be recruiting a judging panel to select the winner and runner-up entries.
Costs we need to cover include:
Any surplus funds raised will be used for materials to support the Govan Docks Regeneration Trust community consultation on the future of the docks.
This project successfully funded on 2nd June 2018
