Project Intro

Here's a quick heads-up about the project; who we're supporting, why and when!

Who: 25 young people from Worthing High

Why: in response to the last 18 months we want to help them get active, make new friends, learn new skills and get involved in local issues

When: we'll start in the spring and run for 12 weeks through to the summer

About us: Future Proof Purpose CIC are a Sussex-based social enterprise using sport and creativity to inspire young people to more positive futures

Putting Young People In Control

We know so many children have been affected by the pandemic - disruptions to school, home life and social activities have been huge and are still happening. We want to give 25 young people the confidence, skills and opportunity to tackle the issues affecting them and the people around them.

Social Action

It's why we've partnered with the amazing team at Albion in the Community to launch a new GoSketch Social Action programme. We'll engage young people from Worthing who need more support at this time and we'll invite them to complete a programme that will develop their fitness, build friendships, challenge them to create a new team identity - and then use that new team to address an issue in their local area.

Overcoming Barriers

So many of the children we work with have a barrier to sport. The coaches from Albion in the Community will create an inclusive environment where everyone can try something new, develop new skills and come together as a team. We'll then channel that energy into a creative challenge where they have to develop and design a team identity. Halfway through the project each group receives kit featuring their designs - to show how the design process completes, to keep them playing and as a reward for their efforts and something to be proud of. Based on previous projects outcomes we'd expect to see include: 88% of participants being more positive about sport, 90% wanting to keep playing, 84% now considering creative or sporting GCSE's, and key skills like teamwork boosted by 30%. Social Purpose

In the second half of the project we'll push on with their football skills, increasing their confidence on the pitch and building up fitness levels. Off the pitch the challenge will focus on how the new team develops its own social purpose. What issue do they see locally that they can do something about? It could be more inclusive training sessions for anxious children or a mass participation event for the whole school? They might want to target litter picks, beach cleaning or other environmental issues. Whatever they see as important, we'll do our best to help them tackle it - establishing new training opportunities, creating posters or social media messaging to raise awareness, or recruiting local business to rally behind their cause. Anything!

New Leaders

Ultimately we want to enable young people take the lead. And we want to give them the platform to do so. We'll help connect them, boost their confidence, improve their physical and mental wellbeing - and then give them the manager's jacket (so to speak) so they are in charge of what they do next! If we're lucky enough to exceed our funding target we'll run more projects just like this - for every extra £2500 we raise we can support another 25 children and young people.
