It’s always a gratifying moment when we catch a leopard on camera trap, but catching a jumping leopard is absolutely fantastic!

Leopards are probably one of the most secretive animals in Africa. It’s extremely hard to observe and study them, especially in dense tropical forests. They are opportunistic carnivores which adapt to several different environments, from sandy deserts to humid equatorial forests.

These amazing cats are fundamental for the ecosystem balance as they act as top predators, regulating herbivore and other small mammal populations.

TAF is directly involved in restoring and protecting the unique ecosystems of the Batéké Plateau. Because of the ecological role of leopards it is vital that we can monitor their status to understand how the restoration of the National Park is doing. Camera-trapping is probably the best method to apply for studying without altering their natural behavior.
