Newquay is the home to The Wave Project – an innovative charity providing surfing and mentoring to vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people. Whether disadvantaged through disability, home or family situation or by mental health issues, we support socially excluded young people to improve their health and well-being – giving them the support and tools to transform their outlook and ultimately their lives.
Jessie, aged 16, has been involved with the Wave project since June.....
"I was referred as I was having really bad anxiety issues and a really bad home life. The Wave Project feels like a family...it's place you can go to get friends".
Why We Need A Unit
Our services in Newquay are currently delivered out of the back of a van – which is great but could be so much better.
A unit at Towan promenade will provide the Wave Project with an accessible permanent beach side home in Newquay – pretty essential for our activities. The unit would:-
- house our boards and wetsuits so we are ready to get stuck in.
- provide a changing space – so our young people don’t have to get undressed in a public car park – pretty awkward for anyone – even more awkward if you experience acute anxiety.
- give us access to fresh water so we can wash down and look after our equipment, suits and rashes
- have the luxury of a shower so our young people can wash away the salt and sand after giving it all in the sea.
- provide our amazing volunteers, who provide 1-2-1 support for each young person, with a kettle so they can warm up after a cold spring session with a hot drink – it’s not a lot in return for their time and dedication.

£20 and over - All pledgers donating over £20 will be invited to our exclusive unit launch party once the unit is up and running…be a part of it

£50 Pledge – Get involved. Try your hand at a sea session with the Wave Project community…you’ll wonder why you hadn’t done it sooner. You too will get your invite to our launch party….it’s a package of fun. You’ll have to be quick though; there is only 20 Get Involved places.
£100 Pledge – We are offering you the unique chance to have your name (or name of your choice) hand scribed onto our unit's supporters wall…..you’ll get to see the un-veiling first hand at the launch party.
£250 Business Pledge – Got a local business. Demonstrate your community support and in return we will hand scribe your business name and logo onto our unit's supporters wall…..we will also throw in a couple of invites too for the un-veiling at the launch party.
£1,000 Business Sponsorship – Get in touch and to discuss Unit sponsorship options for your business and volunteer day for your staff. Only three such packages up for grabs.
