Aim

Rebuild our club, member numbers, coaches and volunteers after Covid, via a complete wellbeing programme & attract more young female boxers

Who we are

Comber Boxing Club is situated close to the heart of Comber Town Centre - a market town with 9,071 people from 3,811 households.

The club is an entirely non-profit organisation, managed by a small team of dedicated volunteers and coaches. Any fundraising generated by the club are used for the benefits of our members – covering our ever-increasing running costs, maintaining our gym, replacing equipment or paying for our boxer’s and coaches' travel and accommodation when they take part in competitions across Northern Ireland, the rest of the UK and Ireland. competitions

As a small club, we focus on offering the best support we can to our young boxers. We mix a combination of teaching a healthy respect for others with offering a fun, safe and healthy environment for all.

Everyone is welcome to our club, regardless of where they are from, their background, religious beliefs, cultural traditions or sporting ability.

For us, we are not merely offering opportunities for members to enjoy physical exercise but learn, grow and develop into young adulthood and beyond, having a real sense of self-worth, self-confidence and belief in their individual talents. We foster self-respect, respect for opponents, peers and coaches, and respect for the wider community in which they live.

Why We are Crowdfunding

It has been a difficult number of years for Comber Boxing Club. Not only did the club, along with the rest of the community/nation suffer the dreadful effects of Covid and the subsequent Lockdowns. But due to inactivity in our club premises, a burst water pipe in our ceiling caused thousands of pounds of damage to the building and some of our equipment. Luckily we have managed to restore our premises, making them fit for use once again.

However, Covid has had a much deeper impact on our club. Members are delighted to be back in training, resuming competitions and enjoying the great sport of boxing once more. However, we can not be sure of the side affects of several lockdowns on the mental health and feelings of isolation our members may have experienced. Therefore, we believe it is essential we put in place specific projects that will re-invigorate our members, their families and the wider local community and begin to repair any negativity that has arisen due to Covid.

What we want to do

We want to attract new members, particularly younger girls and women to take part in boxing and  open up the sport to more people in our local community. We will offer a 12 week programme that is specifically tailored to young girls with no previous experience of boxing - with an empahsis on fitness, being active and having the opportunity to meet new friends

Boxing is a sport that requires great personal discipline, but it also teaches fighters to develop a high regard for their opponents, their peers and their coaches.

Another key element to the discipline of boxing is having a deep awareness of the internal and external influences that can have an affect on us - both positive and negative. This is why we want to focus more support on equipping our members with the skill and knowledge to develop holistically. We want to offer our boxers, their families and of course our local community members:

A 12 week Healthy Mind programme, that offers the support to develop better mental health outcomes

A 12 week  Healthy Me project that focuses on building deeper awareness amongst boxers of the need to develop and maintain a healthly, balanced diet. Of course, the current cost-of-living crisis means that we have to demonstrate how families can achieve a healthy yet cost effective nutritional schedule that is within their budgets. It is essential to include parents and siblings in this otherwise the programme will not succeed

A dedicated 12week physical fitness regime that will include our members, their families, siblings and with a little push, others from outside the club who want to engage in developing a healthier lifestyle.

Individual fitness plans will be tailored to each person's needs and objectives and everyone participating will be encouraged to complete the other 12 week programmes
