Aim

3 years ago our village was dying; no shops/pub/facilities! We now own our Chapel but need accessible toilets so old and young can use it!

The refurbishment of The Old Chapel will enable the Godolphin Cross Community Association (GCCA) to provide services and opportunities for the community which will relieve many of the worst effects of rural isolation and loneliness. The GCCA has an opportunity to reverse the trend of "de - servicing" which has seen the village lose all of its commercial and recreational outlets in the last 15 years; in addition, locally valued heritage will be preserved, jobs created and hope restored.

By creating an accessible and inclusive community project in a high quality space, those experiencing loneliness or who are marginalised will be engaged in a way that has not been possible in the village in the recent past.

In 2020, GCCA will

  • continue to offer three youth projects to 7 – 16 year olds, including one session with a focus on mental health and educational transition.
  • carry on the regular services for all residents – the Post Office, Coffee Morning and WOW community lunch – but in a new building that will provide a more comfortable, safe and accessible venue for those with mobility problems, and for our wheelchair users.
  •  improve facilities so they can be enjoyed on a monthly basis by the Godolphin W.I. and by our resident Gardening, Craft and Heritage groups, operating alongside our Pilates, Yoga and Dance classes and our all - age Keep Fit sessions.

  • support the new Little Dolphins Toddlers' group aimed at mothers and babies in the village, providing play and development opportunities for children and health and social support for new parents. The addition of baby changing facilities in the new building programme will be especially welcomed by this group, and should significantly boost numbers and secure the service.
  • Families can also suffer, especially those Forces families who reside in the village (Godolphin Cross is just four miles from R.N.A.S. Culdrose), and who need to rely on a supportive place to live during stressful times and long-term postings.
  • Our popular live music and arts evenings will go up from 3 per annum to 6, enabling many more people to access live entertainment, and we hope to stage a first drama performance evening during 2020.

  • Perhaps the biggest challenge we see ahead concerns the care and inclusion of older people in their homes and their community; as the village population gets older and outside services become more rationed and more expensive, GCCA feel a sense of responsibility to play its part. A collective community response will be needed, and to do that we will need a secure and flexible base, well drilled volunteers, access to resources and influence, and the confidence to do what we think right. This Crowdfunding project will help put us in a good place from which we can set up such community services.
