Seven candidates will stand for the Women's Equality Party in local elections across the Greater Manchester region this May. Our candidates; Lucy, Paula, Diane, Hattie, Donna-Maree, Jo and Samantha are campaigning for extra funding and improvements in childcare, social care and social housing, and an end to male violence against women and girls.
Barbara Guest, Leader of the Women's Equality Party Greater Manchester said:
"The last 12 months has underlined just how important it is for society to tackle what's become an epidemic of violence and abuse against women in the UK. We have been campaigning to ensure this fundamental right - to live in safety and without fear - is made both a political and policing priority. We are pleased to see the GMCA Gender-Based Violence Strategy being adopted across GM local authorities.
We will be monitoring activity closely on the ground to check whether the promises and commitments made by both the politicians and the police are delivered and make a real difference to the lives of women across Greater Manchester.
Our candidates will work collaboratively with others on local councils to ensure funding for victims and survivors of domestic abuse is guaranteed for the long-term and that initiatives to challenge the attitudes and behaviours of men and boys are rolled out consistently across all councils."
