Aim

A short film about a young boxer with a toxic family and a boxing coach with a traumatic past.

The Story

After an underground boxing fight, Roy, an eager young fighter who feels alienated by his disapproving upper-class family, approaches boxing coach Dave, in the hope to begin training with him. But Dave has demons of his own that he must first overcome before he can help Roy. After Roy walks out on his toxic family, he helps Dave put his past traumas behind him. They decide to start training together and begin to make Roy the boxer he's always dreamed of being.

Director's Statement

My main intention is to explore the tragic lives of our central characters and watch their journey as they leave their past behind and strive for a better future. I intend to craft this as an intimate narrative that uses boxing as a vessel to further explore the journeys our characters take.

When deciding the style of the film I took inspiration from 'Spit of You' (Music Video), 'Wasp' (Short Film) and 'Seconds Out' (Short Film); these were all incredibly helpful when I began to visualise the film and share my stylistic intentions with the crew. The film's visual style will combine naturalistic lighting and a poignant free-moving camera which will create a feeling of realism in every shot. J-cuts will help us transition effortlessly and seamlessly between scenes. The film will be driven by strong nuanced performances that feel real and express the variety of emotions our characters feel. We hope that this will create an immersion that encourages the audience to focus on our characters and truly invest in their journeys.

Where You Come In

We’ve got a brilliant crew, a script that we love, and access to high-end equipment, including an ARRI camera kit courtesy of our University. But there are many additional costs that we need to cover if we are going to successfully make this film.

The biggest expenses will be the casting and locations. Our film follows the story of Roy and Dave, there is a lot of ridding on the chemistry between these two characters, so finding talented actors will be our top priority. When it comes to locations, our film hops around the world it is set in. So, to create a believable world we have to find the right locations that convey character, setting and realism. Roy's parent's house will be our main location expense as this needs to juxtapose the lavish life that they live and the life that Roy wants for himself.  These two aspects of the film are pivotal but there is so much more that is needed if we are going to make this film how we envision it. With your help and support, we will be able to successfully tell the story we intend to and really show off our filmmaking talent.

All of our expenses are shown in the chart below:
