GLOUCESTER FOODBANK

RCN 1113515, Gloucester

Gloucester Foodbank's purpose is to relieve poverty and financial hardship, through the Food Bank Project. The project provides a temporary, stop-gap through food distribution to those who present in crisis. Free emergency food is provided for 3 days. The food is distributed in exchange for vouchers issued to individuals according to need by a number of local crisis agencies and social services.

GLOUCESTER FOODBANK

Gloucester Foodbank is a registered charity linked to the Trussell Trust. We support individuals and families in need in and around the City of Gloucester. We not only provide food and toiletries to help in the short term, but also operate in conjunction with another charity, offering financial support advice on areas such as benefits, debt relief etc

Demand for our services increased during the Covid pandemic and has increased again due to the Cost of Living crisis. We are now giving out around 50% more food etc than we did in 2019. We have a small paid management team but rely hugely on around 70 volunteers, who collect, sort and help deliver food donations.

Before the current Cost of Living crisis our food donations roughly matched demand for support. However in 2023 the demand has increased and donations have not, as people have less money to support those in need. Consequently we are now having to buy food etc and spent £9000 in July 2023.
