Since launching Supasport SW C.I.C. in 2013 it has been my mission to help more people witness and embrace the power of activity/movement to benefit their physical and mental health, while also creating friendships, better communities and memorable experiences.
We now are able to do this through the work we do as a team across our work in schools, via Social Prescribing and through our school holiday camps. The team that we have assembled is now a very unique, specialised group that understand the importance of making activity fun, while also using it as a vehicle to achieve so many more personal development targets during the process.
We are aware though that there are many currently, who don't have access to our work who would benefit hugely from it. Our aim is to make what we do more accessible to kids, adults and families across the South West, for free.
Jamie Thomson, who leads our Social Prescribing service is an experienced mental health first aider and sports and activity delivery specialist who takes pride in his ability to use our work to help people referred to us (via their surgeries) gain confidence and control of their health challenges by introducing individually designed activity sessions to our patients. Jamie specialises in empowering people to take ownership of their lives and how to incorporate activity in to their routines, leaving people he works with motivated and positive about the challenges they face.
Martyn Webster is our Lead Schools Coach and has spent 4 years with us growing from Assistant Coach to now the manager of a team of Coaches. Martyn has that priceless ability to make any child at his, or his teams sessions feel relaxed while enjoying the benefits of sport/exercise/activity. He has also fine tuned his ability to convey important "life skills" that can be taught and demonstrated through the vehicle of activity.
We are hugely passionate about our work and the impact it has on people as seen here by a lady who received our Social Prescribing service:
"Going forward I feel I have benefited a lot, not just physically but mentally too. I also feel this project will be of benefit to me in the future. I have learned to value, and even like my body again. This helps me like myself as a whole and gives me confidence in myself and with others. I have a much better awareness of my mood and postures now. I've started to notice my energy levels a lot more now also. This really helps me manage my depression" Jenny- St Austell.
We want to use this Crowdfunding campaign to allow us to expand our services and make a bigger impact across Cornwall/The South West. We would love your support if you too value the impact and power activity has to help people better their lives.
