Homelessness in London is rising every year and is now pushing 4,000 people for the first time ever (1/6th are women).

When the London mayor found spare tax income of £140 million, it would have made sense to use it to tackle this large homelessness crisis, but that didn’t happen.

Instead, the money was used to fund universal free school meals for families with children at primary schools. Now it is not just means-tested families whose children will receive free meals it is all and that includes families who are usually considered able to afford the meals. We feel this is illogical and unjustifiable in times of tight public spending and when there are desperate people who need to be made a priority.

To help reverse the mayor’s funding choice, we are asking families who can afford school meals to donate the money they would have spent on their children’s meals to a fund which will be donated to a homelessness charity.

We are asking those families to donate any sum up to the £440 value of meals each child will receive. Every penny will go to a charity which is helping homeless people in London and which strives to give them a permanent home.

Together we can help house London’s homeless people.
