We're all passionate about cartoons and comics - but can everyone actually get to see them? Currently no, due to a set of stairs and a malfunctioning lift. But you can change all that!
Our lift, with its magical ability to transport people from the sunny/rainy (*delete as applicable) streets of London to our lovely basement museum full of cartooning wonders, has been out of order since 2022. This means that people with mobility issues or buggies have had problems getting in without calling for assistance, including the many neurodiverse young people that visit with their families as part of our award-winning autism programming.
The current lift was seemingly patched together from papier mache, old cereal boxes and stickyback plastic in true ‘Blue Peter shows you how to build Tracy Island’. Which means, like many children who dropped water on their Tracy Island models and watched in horror as they melted, we need a full new lift installed as soon as possible. Unfortunately, unlike a plastic Tracy Island a new lift will cost us £53,000.
With the support of some wonderful partners we have so far raised £45,00 and need your help pushing us over the line. In return we have partnered up with legendary cartoonist Ralph Steadman to offer some incredible, one-off, limited edition prints. We have also done a reprint run on some incredibly rare Cartoon Museum merchandise featuring little-seen works by Ralph from our collection:
Exclusive artwork donated to the fundraiser by Ralph Steadman
Tote bag and tea towel featuring a rarely-seen Steadman artwork from our collection
If you would like to net yourself some awesome Ralph Rewards while helping our alI visitors access the world of cartoons and comics without worrying about their mobility, please do your bit and donate to our crowdfunder today!
