Give Pounds to Spend a Penny!
TOILETS! Great topic for a crowdfunding campaign, eh? But here is the situation……
In Edwardian times, toilets weren’t important. Not at all. They were small, cramped and didn’t even have any plumbing! Though our facilities have moved with the times, (running water, flushing, all the mod cons!) the space hasn't changed and our audiences are crying out for more loos!
The Kings is an iconic theatre – The Theatres Trust consider it “a theatre of national architectural importance”, – but while retaining the charm and elegance of the original Edwardian style, our toilets desperately need to be brought into the 21st century, and that is where we need your help.
We’ve had the architects and the builders in, and we know what we need to do. We are going to swap the ladies and gents around, create more cubicles in the ladies and choose Edwardian style features and finishes. However, we can't do it alone. We have been able to secure half the cost of this renovation, but we now need your help raise the other half through Crowdfunding.
To say thank you we have put together a number of exclusive, one-off opportunities for you to connect with the Kings, only available through this crowdfunding site.
So please, help us and Give Pounds to Spend a Penny! We can’t do it without you.
(It will be a great relief for all!)
Who are we?
The Kings Theatre is a 1600 seat, Edwardian venue in Portsmouth, built by renowned theatre architect Frank Matcham in 1907. Full of original features and charm the theatre was recently named as ‘A theatre of national architectural importance’ by the Theatres Trust.
With over 140,000 patrons each year The Kings Theatre is a popular and iconic part of the city of Portsmouth. It offers something for everyone from musical theatre, music and dance to drama, family shows, opera, ballet, comedy, film, live screenings and Pantomime. After a long period of uncertainty at the end of last century she has undergone restoration and now operates on a self sustaining basis and with a vibrant community engagement programme.
We are now at the start of a new chapter for The Kings Theatre, and the possibilities and opportunities are endless...
