Aim

Starting a new girls only training session we hope to increase female participation, moving the club membership towards 50/50 male/female

Who are we?

We are Dukes Boxing gym located in campsie avenue, Omagh Co.Tyrone. We have been open and affiliated with IABA since 2021. Our club has achieved several national titles with various boxers and even had international victories through the Ulster High Performance programme. However our club does more than chase titles, we build strength, confidence, friendships & ties to the community.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Our club is currently 99% male. We have 1 female member. Who has gone from strength to strength and in 3 years has become national champion and holds a spot on the Ulster High Performance programme. She has been a pleasure to coach and boxing has improved all aspects of her life. We understand young girls/women may feel awkward or intimidated amongst so many male competitors.

The club wants to start a new free training session every Saturday for girls only, aged between 8 - 18yrs old. This programme will run from the start of September and end in December. We want to provide a welcoming, safe and relaxed environment which is financially available to all. These women will be trained & guided by our female coaches and supported by our national champion Riona Devine. At the conclusion of the training programme they will be offered the opportunity to join the team and continue training for a show displaying their newly acquired skills.

The coaches are being supported by Riona Devine. Her role of helping deliver their training will develop her leadership skills giving her valuable experience. Our female coaches will also gain valuable experience planning & delivering their training programme. Whilst challenging old fashioned stereotypes and gaining respect for women in the wider boxing community. The girls taking part will hopefully find focus and improve their physical and mental health whilst making friends from different backgrounds. The show will bring in a good sized crowd and unite the local community in their shared common interests. Higher levels of exposure and more competition in female boxing will increase its popularity resulting in more healthy, confident & social young women in our community.
