We are raising funds to improve Girls cricket participation and pathway to long participation.
We are Thorp Arch and Boston Spa Cricket Club (TABS), a thriving, volunteer-run community club based in West Yorkshire. For more than 150 years, we’ve been proud to provide opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to play and enjoy cricket. Our club is home to two thriving senior teams, two ladies teams and over 150 junior members playing in our teams from ages 5 to 18. We are committed to equality and are passionate about making cricket open, inclusive and sustainable for everyone in our community, no matter their age, background, or experience.
We’re crowdfunding to raise £35,000 to install two wickets at our ground and to invest in the coaching, kit, and equipment needed to launch a girls’ cricket section at TABS.
Our project will:
- Install wickets, allowing more use than our current grass wickets.
- Launch girls’ cricket sessions and teams for ages 8–15?, building on a successful
local pilot which attracted over 25 girls from local schools.
- Provide equipment and coaching to remove barriers for new players — especially
those from families who can not afford.
At present, our ground is at full capacity. Demand from existing men’s, women’s and junior teams means we simply don’t have enough playable surfaces or time slots to introduce new sessions. Local consultation has also shown that girls’ want a girls’-only session where they can feel comfortable while learning the game. Without additional capacity, we risk turning away keen new participants, especially girls just as interest is growing.
This project seeks to increase participation among girls and young women, provide opportunities for them to socialise and be active in a sport that is male-dominated and will help to tackle inequalities as well as supporting a sustainable participation pathway in to our newly established senior women’s teams.

This project is about creating opportunities and lasting impact:
1. A pathway for girls and women – creating a clear progression from junior to senior cricket.
2. Tackling inequality – removing barriers for underrepresented groups, providing free kit and affordable access.
3. Maximising community use – facilities open to the local community: schools, youth groups and inclusive sessions.
4. Supporting wellbeing – promoting physical activity, teamwork and confidence for young people.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
