Purchase and install 2 lane nets
Could Gilmorton have the next Jimmy Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root or Heather Knight (England T20 captain at the 2022 Commonwealth games, in case you did not know).....??
Did you know... Alice Capsey, aged 17 was in the England Squad at the Commonwealth games!
We are a youth (Boys and Girls) village cricket team with 40+ members, aged from 6 to 14, which is growing by the year. The team practice and play at the Gilmorton Community Playing Fields on Friday evenings, but alas no net facility to practice batting or bowling, which can and does mean a lot of chasing balls!!!
In 2021, the under 11's won the Leicestershire & Rutland League Incrediball Championship!
We want to install an all weather cricket net facility, as no nets are available for the team to practice within. Notts Sports, who have supplied Lords Cricket Ground, have kindly agreed to undertake the project at a significant discount. HUGE thanks to the team!
The Gilmorton Pavilion is open to the general public, so the facility will be available to all and we hope encourage more to join our club and see it continue for many years to come.
This campaign is very much focused on raising as much as is possible to fund the £17,000 cost of purchase and install of a single lane open net. The net facility will allow players to practice batting and bowling and is seen as a vital piece of kit in helping players (of all ages) improve.
The Gilmorton players have visited many other playing pitches with nets in place and can only admire. The squad also have to travel every winter, to a local college, to use nets and practice.
We're planning on holding an end of season awards day, with BBQ and more, engaging the village, to again increase our fund-raisng.
We're also organising a BIG curry night - Check out the rewards section as tickets are now on sale!!! 26th September at the Crown Gilmorton - See you there!!
As the Commonwealth Games was enjoyed by so many and cricket finally making an appearance, it is really important that as a Club, we can offer the facilities and activities that people of all ages can be inspired by and will be keen to get involved! With interest growing in sport not only for the mainstream groups, but also for more marginalised, or even just the very young and much older, it is vital that we continue to adapt and improve our facilities to provide the most usable spaces possible for everyone.
Gilmorton has a huge space, just under utilised, so let's make it happen!
