My Story: Bringing Windrush to Life in Classrooms
My name is Heidi. As an early years educator, childminder, and mother of 2 mixed-heritage children, I've seen firsthand the gap in resources that genuinely reflect our diverse world. This is especially true for vital migration stories like Windrush, which is why I'm passionate about creating inclusive and meaningful learning experiences for every child.
That passion led me to create StoryTime Scarves - a simple yet powerful idea: using colour, culture, and sensory-rich storytelling to bring learning to life for children aged 3-7. These aren't toys - they're educational tools designed to support narrative development, emotional literacy, and cultural understanding across the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Key Stage 1 (KS1).
This year, I'm proud to introduce the Windrush Rhythms Story Pack. This special educational pack features a beautifully illustrated 70 x 70cm cotton storytelling scarf with symbolic artwork, complemented by printable flashcards and a comprehensive teacher guide. The packs are designed to help children explore profound themes like identity, movement, migration, and celebration through guided activities involving rhythm, imagery, and imagination.
My Vision: Sharing the Rhythm of Windrush
I aim to gift this powerful educational resource to at least 50 primary schools in Bromley, with delivery in time for Windrush Day on June 22nd. Every child deserves to see their heritage and community reflected in the classroom, and every educator should feel confident and equipped to explore the Windrush story in a meaningful, age-appropriate way.
While 50 schools are the starting point, I can reach even more classrooms and communities across the borough and beyond with your support.
