Aim: A bold, funny new show about community, resilience & the people who step up when systems fail. Help us take it on the road.

I’m Victoria Melody, and for the past 2 years I’ve been making a new theatre show in collaboration with the people of Whitehawk, a council estate in East Brighton. The show is called Trouble, Struggle, Bubble and Squeak and it celebrates the ordinary people who step up when systems fail. People fighting food poverty, saving public land, and looking after each other without fanfare or funding.

The idea began with the 17th-century Diggers — radicals who believed land should be shared and used to grow food. But what started as historical research quickly became something else. Because the more time I spent in Whitehawk, the more I realised that spirit was still alive today.

The result is a funny, moving, urgent piece of theatre that shows what community action really looks like. It’s rooted in one place but speaks to many. This story could be happening anywhere — and it is.

This is a solo show made from a collective effort — shaped by real conversations, community voices and shared experiences.

Now, we need your help to share it.

We’re raising £3,000 to support the logistics of taking this show on tour — travel, transport, accommodation, and all the behind-the-scenes costs that make touring possible. Your support will help us bring this story to audiences across the UK.

If you believe in people-powered storytelling, please support us.
