Help us get Stacy Hart elected to Hampshire County Council!

by Basingstoke Equality in Basingstoke, Hampshire, United Kingdom

Back Stacy for Hampshire County Council!

In May 2024, Stacy Hart was elected the UK's first Women’s Equality Party Borough Councillor. She now represents the community of Hatch Warren and Beggarwood in Basingstoke, where she works tirelessly to support residents there, while being a voice for women's equality.

We’ve been working locally for the last five years as Women’s Equality Party Basingstoke, but that party has now closed. But we know there is still work to be done and we want to continue that fight. We’ve created a new grassroots movement for equality in Basingstoke and we’ve established ourselves in November 2024 as a new political party, Basingstoke Equality.

And now Basingstoke Equality is asking for your help. We're raising money to fund Stacy’s campaign for a seat on Hampshire County Council. We don't have the major donors or millionaire friends that other parties have - we rely on the kindness of volunteers and community members to support our work and keep us running.

Last year, you showed up for us to get Stacy elected to Borough Council. The money you generously donated helped us pay for leaflets and letters, so we could get the word out within the community to let residents know why Stacy is the representative for them. Now, we're asking for your help again.

Even before Stacy was elected Borough Councillor, she worked tirelessly in the ward to support residents. Now she's officially elected, she's continued to show up, and we want Stacy's work to reach more communities in Basingstoke, because they deserve a councillor who cares.

As County Councillor, Stacy will:

  • Campaign on the issues that matter to Basingstoke - our local hospital, violence against women and girls, and more support for local planning and infrastructure.
  • Do the work year-round, not just at election time. She holds regular Ask Me Anything sessions to meet and address residents’ issues.
  • Bring a fresh, independent approach to politics which means we can work across party lines and get things done.
  • Bring an equality approach to every issue, to help us make life better for everyone.

Background: Stacy and Basingstoke Equality

BE are continuing the legacy of the Women's Equality party, and will work with equality at the forefront of everything we do. While the stale, mainstream voices in UK politics are failing, BE wants people of all backgrounds to fight for equality, so that everyone benefits.

Stacy is the leader of the Basingstoke Equality party, and is running for Hampshire County Council because we know that fresh, innovative and diverse perspectives are desperately needed in politics. Politics was never on the agenda for Stacy, but her time as a community volunteer, self-employed worker, and stay-at-home parent has shone a light on the change that we so badly need to see in society.

As Borough Councillor for Hatch Warren & Beggarwood, Stacy has:

  • Addressed dozens of residents’ issues since being elected in May 2024.
  • Organised residents to successfully challenge the 24-hour MacDonalds licence in Hatch Warren to prevent antisocial car meets.
  • Brought an equality lens to committees like the Resident’s Services Committee and Licencing Committee.
  • Was instrumental in campaigning for Council to fight violence against women and girls by becoming White Ribbon accredited.
  • Won acknowledgement in Council’s climate action plan that gender equality must be better considered with our innovative climate action proposal.
  • Held the previous Conservative government to account on the funding for Basingstoke’s hospital and has campaigned against the warehouses at Junction 7.
  • Successfully petitioned the House of Lords to advise the Department for Education on school sports equality.
  • Organised lots of community events - like community lunches at Beggarwood Cafe, a singing event at Dashwood Manor, and regular men’s events to highlight how equality’s better for everyone.

It's time to continue this progress. It's time for a fresh and independent voice and a collaborative approach to making change. It's time for equality to be put at the heart of local government. Because politics should be for everyone.

Your donation

BE is relying on people like you to help us to keep fighting for equality. Any donations you can give us today will make a huge difference in our fight for equality:

£10 will help pay for us to deliver leaflets to spread the word about Basingstoke Equality.

£20 will help pay for digital adverts, meaning we can reach potential voters online.

£50 will help us send 1000 letters to the community to tell them more about our campaign.

Your support will ensure that we can fight for equality. Every donation brings us a step closer to a seat in County Council and the ability to make real progress. No amount is too small.

The local elections are a great opportunity for everyone to vote for equality and BE needs your help.

Thank you for your support.
