Hi everyone! And welcome to 'Getting Nina into Further Education!' Where to begin?
10 years ago I moved from Brazil to the UK with the goal of getting into the film Industry. With 5 years and a healthy amount of Student debt: I did it!
I've been an (AD) Assistant Director since graduating in 2019 with a BA in Film Production (shout out Bournemouth Film School @ AUB). I've had the privilege to work with world class talent, the most incredible crews, the most generous and supportive teams who've always incentivised me to keep striving for more. And so, I did.
At every opportunity I produced short form content; films, music videos, documentaries. In each project, a lesson. With each lesson, the desire to learn and do more. And so, finding myself at the point in my career where Producing has undeniably become all I want to do in life, the timing felt right to apply to the National Film and Television School (NFTS); one of the best film schools in the world.
I went through all 3 stages (written application, interview and workshops), the last of which was in July, hoping to secure one of the 10 places available per year. I got put on a waiting list, and 3 months later, on the 4th of October, my offer came through.
As ecstatic as I am with having secured a place at a globally prestigious institution, my joy has been somewhat dampened by the very real possibility of not being able to secure £14950 in funding by the 1st of December. This is because the entirety of the 1st year's tuition must be paid ahead of the start of the course in January. Due to my late acceptance, most grants, funds and even loans are no longer available for entry. I have, of course, applied for the few I can but even if I am awarded every single one, it still won't be enough to cover these initial fees.

Let me breakdown some numbers:
You might be shocked to find that I also do not have the funds to financially support myself through a full-time course. Why is this campaign not trying to raise money for the whole year? Who's to say it can't?!
But first, let me actually get a place at the school.
