I've recorded a fun new album of original, swingin' tunes, with fabulous REAL musicians - but I need YOUR help to turn it into records & CDs

The Why

I believe in trying to make more joy in the world through music that we can experience together. In Real Life.

To that end, I have recorded infectious, danceable, fun & funny original tunes for my new album: Songs for Swingin’ Muthaz.

I worked with some amazing musicians on the recordings and now I’d love to make vinyl records and CDs of the album that I can sell, supporting me as a working musician AND spreading the positive message of Collective Joymaking.

The Problem

Independent, working musicians like me are battling to be heard, share new music & to make a living in a sonic landscape colonised by

• AI making synthetic music in an instant, threatening to de-skill human musicians
• AI music & fake bands filling up streaming platforms
• Spotify, which pays fractions of pennies per stream
• busy social media where the algorithm chooses what you view
• increased, up-front costs to manufacture records & CDs

Fake & AI artistes run by major labels are getting promoted, pushing out we human indie-musos.

It feels like the odds are stacked against you if you're trying to independently make joyful, uplifting & REAL music with REAL musicians in the 21st century.

Putting it frankly, if this Crowdfunder doesn’t work, the LP doesn’t come out. Simple as that.

I want to Bring the Swing!

I’ve written and recorded an album’s-worth of new swing, blues & gospel-inspired joy-bringing tunes, on subjects including:

• Having Poor Impulse Control 
• Not having any tattoos
• Getting together to have fun
• Getting on the dancefloor!

Skilled, live musicianship

I’m lucky enough to be part of a family of fabulous musicians and their skills – honed through years of learning, playing and performing – have elevated Songs for Swingin’ Muthaz for sure.

Many of the songs you’ll hear – should this project be a success – were recorded live in the studio. Like they USED to record.

Some were recorded in my front room!

We played through each number a few times, until we got under the skin of it, then the engineer Rowland pressed record.

We did just a few takes of each song because the musicians are just SO skilled and brilliant.

Those musicians are:

• Tom Unwin – clever-clogs musical director, co-composer on a couple and sparkling piano man
• Marcus Vergette – delicious double bass
• John Donnelly – some more delicious double bass
• Ric Byer - pulsin', swingin' drums
• Phil Rossiter – glamorous guitar and vocals
• The Q-dettes - Bernardine Artuso, Clare Pettinger and Kate Blackwell performing honeyed vocals (all incomposed & arranged by Bernardine)
