My Playwriting Debut
Jumper Bumps is a new comedy drama and my first endeavour as a playwright. The show focuses on championing female friendship and voices whilst highlighting the power of self discovery.
As an actor I am continually frustrated with the lack of authentic roles for young women, and while on a walk through Hackney when living in London the opening scene to the play came to mind. The aim is to give a voice to young women and open up discussions often not seen on stage.
In college I wrote and performed my own monologues, enjoying the creative control. This passion has now sparked into writing a full play.
In all honesty I never envisioned the play seeing the light of day but Emma and I are of the belief that you have to do things to make things happen. So here we are doing, and hopefully with your help we can make this happen.
A Feminist Narrative
Inspired by creating roles for young woman, Jumper Bumps aims to shed light in an honest and unflinching way on taboo subjects. This show champions the necessity of women owning the rights to their own bodies and decisions.
The script uses humour and lightness to raise awareness of a women's right to choose, the challenges of spotting coercive behaviour and the power of self advocacy.
We want to use this show to advocate for women's voices, share knowledge and spread awareness.
The Dream Team
Emma is my director and producer. We are both from Perth, Scotland and while technically we performed together whilst attending Perth Youth Theatre (there is a program from 2011 with both of our names in it), we officially met while studying at Performing Arts Studio Scotland in Edinburgh.
This show is our first professional collaboration, and we couldn't be more excited to finally have the opportunity to work together.
We need you!
In order to take part in the Edinburgh Fringe there are a number of upfront costs including venue, marketing and technical costs.
We also stand by a need to pay our team fairly for the run. The gender pay gap between theatre freelancers is 37.4% (The Big Freelancer Survey, 2023) - making this more vital than ever.
The £3000 from this crowdfunder, along with our ticket sales will go some way towards covering our:
- Venue Fee: £2500
- Fringe Registration Fee: £250
- Marketing & PR Support: £1250
- Technical Operator: £1000
- Flyers & Posters: £300
- Rehearsal Space: £1000
- Accessible Performances: £500
In order to ensure this show has the biggest impact it can, we want to have the resources to shout about it from the rooftops and offer accessible performances to reach as many audience members as possible!
Anything you can give will help us get one step closer to achieving this goal and is truly appreciated.
