Speak Woman Speak are seeking a small pot of funding to get to Newcastle to perform in their new show Its Carnival at Northern Stage.
WHO WE ARE:
Speak Woman Speak, are an all-female, black led, Leeds based theatre collective who specialise in highlighting hidden stories from diverse women within the UK. The collective was co-founded in 2013 and since then they have produced various shows, looking at themes such as Loss, Black History and Mental Health. Its Carnival, the new show, is a comedic tale about three women getting ready for Leeds West Indian Carnival. Bernie hates Carnival so her friends Ali and Nas try to convince her to go. Will she give in and go? or will she miss out this year? This empowering story of love, loss and friendship will take you on a journey of past, present, and future. With an exciting soundtrack from the sounds of carnival, you will surely enjoy this vibrant show.
WHAT WE WANT TO DO:
Speak Woman Speak have been given the opportunity to train with the renowned Barbara Santos, an intersectional feminist theatre of the oppressed practitioner, who is delivering training from her organisation ‘Kuringa’ based in Berlin, on their ‘theatre laboratory’ model. See here:

Speak Woman Speak will attend the training in Newcastle and will present Its Carnival as part of the ‘theatre laboratory’. This will be an amazing opportunity for the collective to build networks in another city and learn new skills.
We will use the Crowdfund to cover expenses such as travel and accommodation and to pay the performers fees.
