To raise the funds needed to send Hannah Dines to Para Cycling Road World Championships in August 2018
Hannah Dines has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Para Cycling Road World Championships in Maniago, Italy from 2-5th August but a condition of her selection is that she pay the costs of travel and accommodation herself.
Over recent months the Great Britain Cycling Team have reviewed selection policies and are now able to extend selection to a wider pool of riders with a condition of selection for some riders that they are not fully funded to attend the event they are selected for. Whilst it’s a hugely positive move that more riders can take up the opportunity and honour of representing their country, for Hannah it means finding a sum of money she doesn’t have spare.
As her racing team, Storey Racing have been funding and supporting Hannah over the past two seasons to qualify for World Championships via the World Cup events. Whilst unsuccessful in 2017, Hannah remained focused and determined and has produced a winter of training that is better than any of her previous years. Her continued dedication saw her start the competition season with better than ever power results during the 1st World Cup of the year and at just 24 years old, as an endurance athlete, her best years are yet to come.
Outside of training and racing, Hannah is studying for her Masters [finding time to mentor undergraduate students as well] and also works to support her day to day living and training costs. As the smallest UCI team in the peloton our budget didn't expect to have to cover a rider attending the World Championships in GB team colours and so we have set up this fundraiser to reach out to people who we hope will help us to continue to provide Hannah with every chance of reaching the Tokyo Paralympics of which this World Championships is a stepping stone.
Hannah has previously been funded and part of the GB Cycling team and attended the Rio Paralympic Games. Her funding and support were removed in January 2017 despite her continuous improvement in terms of power and strength. The impact of this loss of funding may have seen lesser athletes give up, but Hannah is not that type of person and is determined to find her potential as an athlete. Not only that but she has dealt with the disappointment of non-selection for the programme with extreme grace and goodwill, always keen to help others achieve in the fields she so enjoys.
Today's selection should not be underestimated, it is very rare a rider outside of a GB programme achieves a World Championships selection and it is a testament to Hannah's unwavering drive that she has achieved this. To find the only thing in her way now is the funds to do it creates a cruel situation which we hope you can help us solve.
The £1500 we are looking to raise will cover the fees of the fundraising as well as the cost of Hannah's flight and accommodation as specified by the GB team.
We hope you will help us to make this happen, every small amount will make a vast difference and will ensure Hannah can focus on being the best she can be, rather than having to work out how to pay for it.
