We want to raise £25,000 to support 10 communities to prepare for the impacts of climate change.
Climate change is already affecting all of us, from devastating floods to extreme heat. With hotter, drier summers and warmer, wetter winters ahead, we need to prepare now.
Community organisations, often run by volunteers, provide lifeline services for their people and places, from foodbanks to social hubs. When the worst happens, they’re at the centre of the emergency response.
They know their communities best, so they’re best placed to say what they need to prepare. Top-down, one-size-fits-all approaches don’t work. Preparing for a changing climate has to be rooted in lived experience if everyone is to thrive, not just survive.
We’re Verture, the UK’s only climate resilience charity.
Climate resilience is the ability to withstand and recover from the impacts of a changing climate. Adaptation, which means changing how we live, work and plan in response, is central to it.
We’re raising £25,000 to work with 10 trailblazing community organisations to co-design a climate resilience programme that delivers what communities actually need. The first four are in Wishaw (North Lanarkshire), Sanday (Orkney), Easterhouse (Glasgow) and Montrose (Angus).
Each organisation will get:
For every extra £250 we raise, we can pay it forward by training another community organisation, using what our trailblazers help us design.
The most marginalised people in society are the most likely to rely on community organisations, and climate impacts deepen poverty and isolation. Emergency responses are vital, but they only deal with the here and now, which leaves communities exposed in the long term. We need to act before the next crisis hits.
Please help us change this and support communities to Get Climate Ready.
If we raise more or less than our £25,000 target, or can’t deliver the programme exactly as planned, donations will be used where they can have the greatest impact across Verture’s wider charitable work: helping people and places prepare, adapt and build a fairer, more climate-resilient future through our Just Resilience mission.
