Who are we?
Stockport Georgians CC are a volunteer run club at the heart of our community in Woodsmoor, Stockport. We currently run 6 Mens teams, 4 Womens teams, Boys and Girls teams from U9 – U18, All Stars, Mini Cricket and are one of the few clubs nationally to have a Champions Club Disability Cricket group.
Why are we crowdfunding?
The club has a couple of game-changing projects in the planning pipeline, and we hope to deliver these over the coming months.
We have submitted a planning permission request to extend and improve our clubhouse. We plan to demolish an adjacent redundant building and rebuild it to include new toilets (including a disabled toilet facility), an extended social area and a new accessible entrance. When completed we will have a much improved and flexible social space with enhanced community and commercial potential.
Additionally, our training facility is becoming worn and in need of renewal. We plan to replace or extensively refurbish our current facility to ECB specification in order to provide a top quality training facility for use by all our teams and coaches.
How we’ll spend the money raised
We have been fundraising and saving hard for the last 10 years, but these two vital schemes will necessitate some grant and loan funding… and around another £30k on top!
Community impact
We're a big part of our local community! We have over 200 juniors from the local area who love their cricket. Some go on to play for the county and our senior teams, some just love playing soft ball games with their friends. We have a place in our club for all comers! The new nets will enable us to deliver better training sessions and the new extension will increase our ability to raise funds and be sustainable for the long term. Our clubhouse is already in demand for local playgroups, NHS training days, community group meetings and charity events. A newer, warmer, bigger, facility with better accessibility with open up greater opportunities for us to extend our links with our community. As an example, we'd love to be able to be a 'warm space' for our local elderly residents.
How you can play your part
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success! We keep our annual subs as low as we can so as not to exclude anyone from membership. Maybe now is the moment you can help us with a one-off contribution towards these projects!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
