Aim

There will be a General Election soon and I need £500 for my deposit to be the Green Party's candidate for Maidstone and the Weald

With a General Election looming I am delighted to have been selected by local Greens to stand for Parliament in Maidstone and the Weald.

To stand in a General Election, candidates need to put down a deposit of £500 which they lose if they get less than 5% of the vote. If I keep my deposit then I will ensure that this money goes towards winning council seats in 2020.

The £500 just buys us a place on the ballot paper so any further money raised will go towards a leaflet for every home in the constituency. I will need a further £700 for that.

We Greens are not funded by unions, big corporations or wealthy hedge fund dealers; we have to raise our own funds from members and supporters so please give what you can so that I can be your voice in this election and hopefully in Parliament too.

This is my statement on being selected:

I am delighted to have been selected to run for Parliament in Maidstone and the Weald. I have been thoroughly appalled by the actions of the Conservatives and Lib Dems over the past 9 years and their complete lack of interest in the environmental crisis that is unfolding around us.

We have deadly air quality in Maidstone, ridiculous housing proposals on green spaces around the Borough, a completely lax attitude towards the climate emergency and continued increase in inequalities that both Conservatives and Lib Dems have presided over, it is time for a fresh approach to tackle the most pressing issues of our time.

I will also be campaigning for a second referendum. No one voted for a no-deal Brexit or a return to the troubles in Northern Ireland. We are all far better informed than we were 3 years ago so it is time for the public to have a final say on what happens.
