This project successfully funded on 14th August 2025, you can still support them with a donation.

Aim

We are fundraising for direct action for Gaza to ensure that we can keep as many people fed and safe as possible.

Friends and Colleagues,

As you know, the situation in Gaza has reached a new level of horror.

The families of our friends and colleagues are facing severe food and fuel shortages and starvation. While some aid organisations are operating in an extremely limited capacity and some UK aid drops are happening, this is not enough to alleviate the terrible human suffering that we are seeing on the ground.

We are a small group of scholars and students based at Newcastle University, some of us are from Gaza and some are on the ground there now.

We are organising direct action now to ensure that we can keep as many people fed and safe as possible. Even if more aid is let through imminently, it will not be fast and accessible enough to save the lives of those facing starvation now. We must act.

What is Direct Action?

The best way we can help those in the most critical situations right now is by sending funds directly to families in Palestine so that they can buy what they need immediately - infant formula and food.

What is the plan and how will it work?

Our aim is to raise funds to support ten families over the next two weeks.

Our Palestinian friends and colleagues (in Newcastle and Palestine) have used their personal and professional networks to identify 10 families who are in acute need.

100% of your donation will be transferred to 2 accounts at the Bank of Palestine. From there, funds will be directly distributed to one member of each of the 10 families.

Caitrin & Craig piloted this method with a donation of £600 to 4 families in need through this method they were able to get the food they needed.

Converting money to cash in Gaza currently incurs a fee of around 50%, but using this method families can pay via bank transfer and have the option to access cash as and when they need.

Food in Gaza is incredibly expensive right now: a bag of flour, some lentils and a small amount of vegetables costs around £75 and would feed a family for a couple of days.

Our goal is to raise £2,000, which will support 10 families for around than 1 week.

If we exceed our goal, our colleagues and friends in Gaza will link us with more families.

We are prioritising based on greatest need: families with children and families facing starvation will receive donations first.

We can’t wait

Every day, men, women and children are facing starvation and extreme threat. We must act now to safeguard as many lives as possible.

Every donation, however small, will make a significant difference to our friends in Gaza.

Transparency

For peace of mind and transparency, transfer receipts will be provided for every single donation and we will provide basic details about the families supported.

This fundraiser will end on 14 August but because every day counts we will continue distributing funds each day.

Every pound you give can save a life

Please give what you can and know that whatever you give it will make a direct and material difference and we will endeavour to provide updates every 3 days to donors.

Thank you.
